The judicial police, through the Northern Board, arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of raping and abusing his partner in Vila Nova de Gaia.
According to a statement by the PJ, the evidence gathered after the investigation indicates that sexual abuse and assault lasted for several months.
The authorities conclude that the suspect forced the companion to "practice copulation against his will" and exerted on the woman "various acts of physical violence".
The detainee was present during the first judicial interrogation, the man being prohibited from contacting the victim and possessing and using weapons. The man will still have to report periodically to the police authorities.
