Ada Colau, President of the Municipality of Barcelona, presented on Monday the Declaration "Cities for Housing" at the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development, which brings together global cities that demand powers and resources from the world. State against real estate speculation
Lisbon, New York, London, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Montreal, Barcelona, Mexico City, Seoul, Durban and Amsterdam, among other cities, have agreed on an international position common to demand comprehensive measures against the expulsion of townspeople, skills and resources against real estate speculation and gentrification.
The Cities for Housing Declaration was implemented through a global network of cities and regional governments, UCLG (Union of Cities and Governments) Ada Colau is the co-chair.
According to Catalan Autonomy, this summit is one of the few opportunities within the UN that allow cities to speak and interact directly with state representatives.
