The homicide of Rafael Gonçalves, a ten-year-old boy killed by his mother in the village of Catraia do Sortelhão, in Guarda, on September 12, 2017, began to take shape in the mother's head two years later early. The murderer was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Ilda Gonçalves, 47, confessed to the crime in its entirety and assumed that since 2015, she planned to kill her son and commit suicide. He told the judge that he was thinking of several ways to do it, namely to throw the child in a well or hang himself. He said he heard voices telling him to do it. Rafael was suffocated with a scarf in his room.

"I got up at 8:00 am and was already dressed to go to school, but I went back to bed to rest a little longer," Ilda confirmed in court. The child was awake but lying on her stomach when her mother wiped the scarf around her neck, pressing it until the boy, who was trying to fight, stopped moving.

Before committing suicide, Ilda deposited his entrance hall body of the house surrounded by photographs. Nearby, a letter addressed to the husband and the eldest son in which he justified the crime with the fear that Rafael would be mistreated at school. The note, learned PJ, was written two days before the crime.

The guard court sentenced Ilda to 18 years in prison. The judges understood that, "despite a severe depressive syndrome with psychotic symptoms, the defendant acted freely, deliberately and consciously, with the aim of killing the child."
