The Marés Vivas Festival starts on Friday with a new venue, more capacity and stages

In its twelfth edition, the festival will begin the new venue, located in the ancient Bacalhau Seca, 600 meters from the old and with a capacity to accommodate 40,000 people a day, either double the previous editions.

Addressing Lusa today, Jorge Lopes, director of PEV Entertainment, responsible for organizing the event, said the festival retains its identity by combining the sea and the river and has, in the future, the conditions to develop.

"The space will breathe better, this will allow more animation and activities," he said.

The first night's stage features the UK jazz funk band and Jamiroquai's acid jazz, formed in 1992 and led by singer Jay Kay, who has sold more than 26 million albums worldwide.

With more than seven albums reaching the Top 10 in the UK, the Grammy-winning group in 1997 keeps the Guinness record "Book of World Records" for the best-selling funk album of all time .

Jamiroquai, the United States rock band of America, formed in 1986, Goo Goo Dolls, and the Portuguese Richie Campbell and Manel Cruz make up the rest of the evening.

On Saturday, the strong point goes to the French DJ David Guetta who will present his new album, his seventh of originals.

The music producer has sold more than three million albums and 15 million singles worldwide.

The evening will feature the Irish independent band Kodaline, which has already participated in the festival, and the Portuguese The Black Mamba and Carolina Deslandes.

The last day of Tides Live will be British pop singer Rita Ora with her latest single "Anywhere", released in October 2017.

The main stage will also feature soul singer Joss Stone, who returns four years later, the debut of New York singer-songwriter Laura Pergolizzi and DAMA.

Daily tickets cost 35 euros and the three day ticket is 65 euros, and no entry is allowed before the age of 6 years.

This year, the Porto Colectes Transport Company (STCP) is promoting a special support operation for the Vive Tides, providing continuous service with the Cabedelo Sands line 902, ensuring the journey and return throughout of the night and dawn with "high frequency", said in a statement.

Buses will run every 20 minutes in one-way trips (between 3:30 pm and 10:30 pm) and in round trips (between 10:30 pm and 5 pm)
