Torrential rains continue for the third consecutive day to hit southwest Japan, with new alerts on the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, where there are already 48 dead and 28 confirmed, the Japanese government said. Japanese government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said 92 people had been missing, especially in the southern region of Hiroshima Prefecture.
More than 100 incidents have been reported by the authorities, including cars dragged by the water. About 40 helicopters are on rescue mission.
