Some parents forget and let the valleys expire, others lose them. The majority say that children are followed by private service.

Since 2009, children aged 7, 10 and 13 have been receiving a dental check for 35 euros during the school year. However, the parents did not join the initiative; and a study explains why.

The research published in the newspaper Acta Médica and published by the newspaper Public concerned 270 students of the Groupement of Health Centers of the West of Lisbon and # 39; Oeiras. When asked the question, 23.7% of parents did not use dental checks because their children were followed by private dentists who had not joined the program.

Next, 21.5% of managers said that they had not used the first dental checks for children with cavities because they had forgotten them and that the coupons had expired .

5.9% also states that they do not use the check because children have health insurance. 4.4% said they lost these documents.

In addition to these numbers, 9.6% of parents complain that they have not received enough information on how to use dental checks.

The initiative started in 2008, including pregnant women from the National Health Service and the elderly who benefited from the solidarity supplement. In 2010, the measure was extended to patients infected with HIV / AIDS. Later, he also covered early interventions in cases of oral cancer risk and adolescents aged 16 and 18 years.
