Predicting the Pittsburgh Steelers Practice Group: Post-Reduction Edition

[ad_1]

The Steelers have reduced their squad to 53 players and the next task will be to train their 11-man training squad once the players finish their quit Sunday at noon. Regarding the lineup of players that the Steelers will seek to sign on Sunday, the Steelers have a general idea of the number of players they want to occupy at a given position in total between the Active Alignment and the Training Team.

Remember that the 11 training team positions should not just allow the Steelers to try to hide the players from the other teams; As an example, after what I could find, the Steelers have not retained a quarterback in the training team for the season since 2000 and it was their third quarter. In addition, the Steelers did not keep a kicker or kicker at the time of Kevin Colbert. Thus, when determining the composition of the team, the variety of positions will be important.

Expected number of Pittsburgh Steelers training teams in 2019

  • Diontae Spencer, WR

  • Johnny Holton, WR

  • Trey Edmunds, RB

  • Christian Scotland-Williamson, TE (IPP exemption)

  • Kevin Rader, TE

  • Patrick Morris, OL

  • Derwin Gray, OL

  • Henry Mondeaux, DL

  • Sutton Smith, OLB

  • Robert Spillane, ILB

  • Marcus Allen, S

Analysis:

There are two differences from my previous prediction of reduction. First, I replaced Johnny Holton with Trey Griffey. Even though I did not choose Holton for the training of 53 players, I really wanted to do it and hoped he would do it. I thought there was no reason to keep him as the seventh receiver, but when the Steelers decided to keep just five more points on the active player list, keeping Holton seemed a necessity.

The other change was Patrick Morris for Jerald Hawkins, recently traded. Morris spent the entire year 2018 in the Steelers' training team and seems to be back there. Hawkins, a fourth-round pick in 2016, spent two seasons in international relations and never really evolved as the Steelers hoped. As part of their exchange with Tampa Bay, the Steelers received a sixth-round draftsman pick in 2021, while shipping a seventh-round pick in 2021.

Currently, Kevin Rader is included, but if the Steelers ventured badly, I would make Zach Gentry take his place among the active players. At the moment, the "luxury" players would be Smith and Spillane, the Steelers keeping five players out of the 53 in each position.
