Residents and their families are invited to participate in the 5e Binational bike ride of the mayors on Saturday 23 October. Registration begins at 7:00 am at the east end of the Yuma Civic Center parking lot (1440 W. Desert Hills Drive).
The 25 mile drive begins at 8 a.m. in Yuma and ends in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora.
The family commute moves at a leisurely pace, with scheduled stops every 5-10 miles. This year the ride will begin at the Yuma Civic Center and stop at Cocopah Korner, Somerton Town Hall, Friendship Park in Gadsden, and St. Jude Thaddeus Church in San Luis, Arizona. . The ride ends with an end-of-race celebration near San Luis Rio Colorado’s Town Hall.
Mayor Doug Nicholls and 4FrontED leaders founded this event to unite communities and showcase the region. This year’s race is hosted by the mayors and elected officials of Yuma County and the towns of Yuma, Somerton, San Luis, Wellton and San Luis Rio Colorado, as well as the Fort Yuma Quechan and Cocopah tribes. The mayors of Calexico, Mexicali and Puerto Penasco and the Mexican consulate will also participate this year. Community leaders will be on hand to welcome and encourage the riders throughout the course.
Passengers are advised to follow the restrictions if crossing the US-Mexico border and bring the appropriate documents for their return to the United States. Foreign nationals must have a valid and current (unexpired) visa (B1, B2) to be admitted to the United States to participate (riders only) in this event. This event offers runners the opportunity to experience the binational 4FrontED region.

General event information
- Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at the east end of the Yuma Civic Center parking lot. Runners must complete a waiver to participate.
- Cyclists of all ages and abilities are welcome. No previous experience is necessary.
- Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent / guardian during the journey.
- All participants must bring their own bicycle and helmet, as well as the appropriate documents to cross the international border.
- Sunscreen and comfortable sportswear are recommended.
- The first 300 people to register on the day of the event will receive a free official event t-shirt.
Route information
- The route will be guided by public security agencies in the region.
- Participants should arrange for a ride home after the race, unless they wish to cycle back to Yuma. Limited public transportation will be available at the end of the event. Yuma County Area Transit will help passengers return to the Yuma Civic Center (space is limited).
Information on crossing the border between the United States and Mexico
- Crossing the border between the United States and Mexico will depend on the status of the federal temporary travel restrictions that are currently in effect until October 21. Passengers are advised to follow the restrictions.
- Foreign nationals must have a valid and current (unexpired) visa (B1, B2) to be admitted to the United States to participate (Cavaliers ONLY) in this event.
- When crossing the border between the United States and Mexico, cyclists should travel light and limit the use of large bags and backpacks.
- Cyclists must cross the border into the United States via the pedestrian route from Port of Entry I in San Luis.
