Prince Harry follows Princess Diana’s BBC investigation, source says

Earlier this week, Prince William spoke publicly about the new investigation into Princess Diana’s interview with BBC Panorama, describing the investigation as “a step in the right direction”. And today Prince Harry made it known he was receiving ‘regular updates’ but that a statement was not needed ‘to imagine how he was feeling in private’.

A source close to the Duke of Sussex said today: ‘Harry receives regular updates and is up to date with everything that is happening. You don’t need a public statement to imagine how he feels in private, people know how much his mother means to him. He has spoken courageously in the past of loss and grief, and the immense impact it has had on him.

It is not known whether William made contact with his brother or contacted him before sharing his comments on the investigation, which were made public on Wednesday evening. Kensington Palace and a Sussex spokesperson declined to comment when asked whether or not Harry had been made aware of William’s decision to speak out.

However, a source close to the Duke of Sussex made it clear that Harry was not happy with the stories that resurfaced today, accusing him of not supporting his brother.

“Unfortunately, some people not only see this as a search for the truth, but also try to use it as an opportunity to try to drive a wedge between the brothers,” the source said. Although living very separate lives, the impression had previously been given that the princes would be publicly united in all matters relating to their mother.

The independent investigation into how Martin Bashir obtained his historic interview with the late Princess is being led by Lord Dyson and will begin immediately. Diana’s brother Earl Spencer said Bashir used “sheer dishonesty” to secure their trust and accused the BBC of “laundering” over the incident in a letter seen by the Daily Mail.
