The prostate is located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The function of the prostate is to produce seminal fluid which helps with nourishment and transports sperm. Are you aware? Prostate cancer is a common occurrence in men. Most of the time, this type of cancer will grow slowly and steadily and be confined to the prostate and may not cause serious problems. However, some types of prostate cancer can spread quickly and require aggressive treatment. The majority of men do not experience this type of cancer and tend to delay treatment which leads to serious consequences later in life. Therefore, men should educate themselves about it and get a proper diagnosis. This will help reduce morbidity and mortality.

Prostate Cancer – Causes and Risks

The definitive cause of this cancer is not yet known. But, various studies have confirmed that family history, old age and obesity can lead to this cancer. You will need to see the doctor once you notice signs like blood during urination, painful urination, blood in semen, burning sensation when urinating, frequent urination, interrupted urine flow, and an enlarged prostate. . Additionally, if the cancer spreads outside the prostate, you may notice fatigue, weight loss, and pain in your back, hips, thighs, and shoulders.

How to diagnose it?

After you notice the symptoms and see the doctor, they will recommend that you go for a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test to check for prostate cancer. In addition, a digital rectal examination (PR) or digital rectal examination (DRE) is mandatory.
