More than 830 confirmed cases are now linked to a cluster of coronavirus in Provincetown, chief executive Alex Morse said in a social media update on Wednesday.

Of the cases, 501 are residents of Massachusetts, of which 210 live in Provincetown. The rest are visitors from out of state, Morse said, citing statistics from the state’s Department of Public Health.

The numbers are cumulative and do not represent the number of people currently infected, he said.

Of the 833 cases, seven required hospitalization – five in Massachusetts and two elsewhere. No deaths were associated with the cluster.

There is good news, he said. The positivity rate for daily tests fell from 15% on July 15 to around 6% on Tuesday.

The cluster is blamed on the 4th of July celebrations at the often crowded resort town of Cape Cod Point.

Last Sunday, the city’s selection board and board of health voted unanimously to reinstate an indoor mask mandate, requiring all workers and customers in indoor public spaces to wear face coverings, to except those who cannot do so due to a health problem or disability.

The mandate applies to restaurants and bars, performance venues, housing, fitness centers, retail stores, offices and other public places, officials said.
