PS5 and Xbox Series X / S restocking arrives at Walmart today at 3 p.m. ET (update: sold out)

Update, 12:45 p.m. PT: Walmart released its inventory of consoles on time at noon PT today, as expected, and we’ve heard from a number of Cheapskate readers who have managed to get one. However, all four models are currently sold out, so we don’t expect to see any additional inventory until Black Friday. Our earlier version of this story follows.

Walmart is back: the retailer promises the four big new game consoles – both versions of the PS5, the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S – will be available on its site at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT) today, Thursday, November 19. As the retailer did as launch day approached, Walmart shared the news of the console’s availability via tweeting its product pages as well. The big question: is his site better prepared for the expected massive influx of traffic? So many people tried to order the PS5 on launch day, November 12, that the Walmart site cordoned off under traffic.

According to our friends at GameSpot, all four versions will be available, namely Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition. As the tweet says, it will only be online, so don’t even bother trying to line up at a brick and mortar store.

Let’s be real with each other for a moment: Your chances of getting a console this week aren’t great. We saw what happened during launch, when the site shuddered under the load of fans trying to buy a console and most people came home empty-handed. We don’t expect the situation to improve significantly this time around, but at least a few of us should be able to get a console.
