New year, new console? Few players have managed to snag a Playstation 5 in 2020, but it’s a fresh new year. Sony’s next-gen console launched on November 12 last year, but inventory didn’t match demand and ran out more or less instantly. In the months that followed, we saw a number of drops in inventory at major retailers, but few people have managed to claim a console since. ordinary users had to compete with robots and resellers. Right now the only consoles you can buy are marked at obscene levels on sites like eBay and StockX, often many times their retail value of $ 400 or $ 500. On eBay, for example, I’ve seen it cost well over $ 1,000. The console was otherwise virtually impossible to find, with at least one person lining up for 36 hours to catch one at a GameStop in California.

Good news: earlier this month at THESE Sony has confirmed that a number of games, such as Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Little Devil Inside, and Solar Ash, are on track for their slated release dates in the first half of the year. So if you already have a PS5 on hand, good times await. But for the rest of us, inventory remains virtually nonexistent.
Twitter continues to be a source to check for restocking news, although we’re seeing fewer significant inventory drops. Instead, retailers appear to be moving to a policy of smaller, more frequent drops that sell out quickly and without much fanfare online. Either way, it will be some time before a PS5 is easy to find. But I’ll keep an eye out for restockings nonetheless and update this article when it looks like you might be able to score a PS5.
The PS5 is available in two versions: there is a $ 500 model with Blu-ray and an otherwise identical $ 400 digital version without a disc slot. At this point, people are happy to get their hands on either, but if you don’t have an optical disc library – for Blu-ray movies, used games, or old games. PS4 – CNET recommends you go with the $ 400 version.

OK, you’ve exhausted all online and physical retailers, and you’ve decided you’re willing to pay over $ 300 mark-up to get this puppy soon. As your friends, we have to tell you: Do not do that. But if you don’t want to listen to us, you might want to check out StockX, an eBay alternative that made its name in the aftermarket for sneakers and designer clothing. The last time we checked, the PS5’s prices were hovering around $ 700.
