PlayStation Network servers are down again, according to both player reports and official Sony sources.
The PSN Server Status Tracker has all areas of the service listed in red at the time of this writing indicating that “you may have difficulty” signing in, launching games, browsing PlayStation Store and beyond (although some users say they haven’t been affected). As it stands, Sony has not offered any timelines for restoring the service, and the issue has appeared to have been showing up for at least a few hours.
Sony’s servers had already experienced significant downtime in July, and while it’s not uncommon for PSN to crash, it’s already become a more protracted problem than most brief service outages.
At this time, there has been no official word from Sony on why the PSN is down. All we have to do is speculate on the nature of the outage, but if any official word comes from Sony or PlayStation, we’ll be sure to update this article as soon as we see it.
