Penn State University said 18 main campus students tested positive for COVID-19 during move-in week testing protocols.

Of the 14,000 students who moved into University Park dorms last week, 2,639 were required to take a COVID-19 test because they had not provided proof that they were vaccinated.

The 18 confirmed positives created a positivity rate of around 0.7%, the university said in a press release.

Those who tested positive via the initial rapid test had the choice of entering campus segregation for 10 days or returning home for 10 days. Additionally, students who tested positive were asked to take a secondary PCR test to confirm their positive result, which can take up to 48 hours.

Some results of PCR tests performed on Commonwealth campuses are still pending.

During the semester, all students – as well as faculty and staff, who are not vaccinated or do not submit a COVID-19 vaccination confirmation will be required to test for COVID-19 every week.

About 83% of students living on the University Park campus provided proof of vaccination on Monday, the university said.
