Public health confirms 2 new deaths and 2,238 positive cases – Update

UPDATE: The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has reported 2 new deaths and 2,238 positive cases. As with all figures reported over the weekend, the lower number of deaths reflects the delays in reporting.

Although the numbers are lower than November 7, the new update continues the upward trend in cases. This is the fourth consecutive day of new cases of more than 2,000 cases.

To date, there are 322,207 positive COVID-19 cases and 7,172 deaths. 851 people currently hospitalized then
29% are in intensive care. Almost 3,257,000 people have been tested and 9% have tested positive.

PREVIOUS: Los Angeles Public Health confirmed 15 new coronavirus-related deaths on Saturday and announced 2,418 new positive cases. The latest update from Los Angeles County officials continues to see the upward trend in cases, marking the third consecutive day of more than 2,000 new cases.

Saturday’s figures see an increase from Friday’s reports where public health confirmed 2,065 cases. In addition to new deaths and cases, public health reports 840 ongoing hospitalizations, 30% of patients receiving ICU treatment. As COVID-19 statistics continue to rise, officials recommend that county residents continue to avoid large crowds, despite the desire to protest or celebrate after local and presidential election results.

Large groups across the country have come together to celebrate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ success over Donald Trump and Mike Pence, often failing to follow CDC recommendations to stay six feet apart. Additionally, Trump supporters or those hoping to challenge the election results have gathered in crowds in areas like Beverly Hills to protest. Officials say such gatherings are where the coronavirus can easily be spread, especially if people do not wear appropriate face covers safely over their noses and mouths.

To date, Los Angeles County has identified a total of 319,977 positive cases and a total of 7,170 deaths. The United States continues to see a grim uptrend across the board, reaching more than 9.9 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 237,500 deaths as of Saturday.
