The Humboldt County Emergency Operations Center is looking for volunteers to help facilitate the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to public health clinics. Those with active medical licenses are preferred, but there are non-medical positions that need to be filled as well.
“People who want to help their community and who can be flexible in their roles are encouraged to contact us,” said Natalie Chapman, EOC Logistics Manager. “Anyone can volunteer – we need people to help with registration, paperwork and directing people.
“The need will grow greater as the supply becomes available, which will allow us to hold more clinics and vaccinate our community more quickly.”
More than 120 disaster health care (DHV) volunteers have been sworn in so far to help with the ongoing vaccination effort. Retired nurses, doctors, pharmacists, emergency responders and members of the general public have dedicated countless hours to staff at the more than 20 public health clinics held so far.
COU Director Ryan Derby said it was the largest and longest-running volunteer effort in Humboldt County history. “Despite the large number of volunteers, we will need additional staff in the weeks and months to come as the vaccine becomes more and more available to residents,” he said. “The people who answer the call to help their neighbors, friends and loved ones, this is how we will end this pandemic. I couldn’t be more grateful for our volunteers.
