HARTFORD – For the third year in a row, Purdue headed for Sweet 16, this time with 87-61 against defending champion Villanova on Saturday night at the XL Center.

In one of the best performances in Purdue basketball history, Carsen Edwards scored 42 points, a career high, opening the game on a three-point blitz that set the tone for a dominant half on the glass as he was on the offensive.

Boilermakers led by no less than 33.

Purdue qualifies for the South Regional next week in Louisville, while Tennessee or Iowa waits in the semifinals.
