SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – An indoor hydroponic farm in South Bend is getting a boost from California-based Taylor Farms. Pure Green Farms, which has built a four-acre greenhouse that grows green vegetables without pesticides, says the investment from the healthy fresh food and salad producer will help meet growing demand for local produce.

Taylor Farms produces salads and other types of healthy foods that are sold in grocery stores nationwide.

Pure Green Farms’ high-tech operation in South Bend allows green vegetables to be grown without being touched by human hands until they reach the consumer’s kitchen. Although Taylor Farms is not disclosing the amount of its investment, the company says the expansion of greenhouse offerings will complement its existing program of 122,000 field crops.

“We are delighted to be entering the indoor grow industry with this investment,” said Bruce Taylor, founder and CEO of Taylor Farms, in a press release. “Our client partners have asked for a national solution and this is our first step.”
