Dozens of staff at local skilled nursing facilities are expected to receive their first COVID-19 vaccine by the end of this holiday weekend.
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office announced on Monday that the state has opted for the federal COVID-19 Pharmacy Partnership which will see CVS and Walgreens employees administering the Pfizer vaccine to nursing home staff and residents nursing homes, assisted living facilities, residential care centers and other long-term care facilities. However, with federal implementation delayed, Humboldt County Public Health took over.

While some facilities, including Seaview Rehabilitation, will begin immunization through the federal program early next week, Fortuna and Eureka Rehabilitation and Wellness Centers are expected to wait until mid-January without health support. public.
Many of the staff at the Granada Rehabilitation and Welfare Center remain in quarantine, but plans are in place to vaccinate all staff who have not tested positive as soon as the quarantine period ends. Staff who have tested positive will be able to start the vaccine series after they have recovered or waited 90 days.
Public health staff are coordinating with the Emergency Operations Center, community partners and medical providers to host invitation-only mass vaccination clinics for county health workers starting next week.
