COUNTY OF CARTERET, NC (WITN) – A rabid fox was found in another county of East Carolina.
Health officials in Carteret County said the fox was introduced Thursday in the vicinity of Golden Farm Road, east of Beaufort.
The fox was euthanized and his remains were sent to a state laboratory where test results revealed positive results for rabies on Friday.
This is the first non-rabies case in Carteret County this year.
According to the Department of Health, anyone who observes abnormal behavior of wildlife should immediately contact the Carteret County Animal Control at 252-728-8585.
So far this year, rabid animals have been found in several counties in eastern Carolina, including Beaufort Counties, Lenoir, Martin, Onslow and Pamlico.
