Random: These fake PlayStation Showcase leaks are hilarious

The last of us

It’s the eve of Sony’s biggest game showcase of the year, so understandably the internet is rife with fake leaks. It doesn’t matter if it’s a complete overview of the whole PlayStation Showcase or some fan-made concept art for a brand new portable device, there are plenty of users online with uncles at Sony who claim to have the inside scoop. Sure, they’re all dead wrong, but it’s pretty fun seeing where people’s imaginations take them to try and convince the internet that what they’re saying is true.

For starters, we have the classic false leak that includes a full overview of the event complete with timestamps. So according to this leak, Bloodborne game producer Teruyuki Toriyama will be the first alongside Jim Ryan with a “world premiere trailer”, presumably of a new game. This is the same Toriyama who left Sony Japan. Studio last year to create new IP addresses and which incidentally joined a VR developer. He then goes on to state that the infamous Abandoned creator Hasan Kahraman will be there with another “world premiere”. There will also be a trailer for God of War Ragnarok, the buyout from Bluepoint Games, and Jim Ryan will sign the showcase with a speech commenting on the availability of the PS5 in 2022.

Yeah, okay, mate.

Then we have a classic 4chan fake leak, which prefaces: “You can believe me or not, I really don’t care.” This is probably the funniest one, so we definitely won’t believe it. What makes it so humorous is that the leak indicates that Naughty Dog will announce a standalone expansion for The Last of Us: Part II titled The Last of Us: Brotherly Love that focuses on Tommy during the events of the second game. There will also be a new game from Media Molecule called Alive and Sony Bend will unveil its new open world IP.

We already know that this leak is fake because it indicates that Call of Duty: Vanguard will be accompanied by a multiplayer trailer, which was actually released yesterday. However, we just want to bring up the title The Last of Us: Brother Love once again for a good laugh. The last of us: brotherly love. Hilarious.

Then there is a new PSP, because of course someone produced fake renders of another Sony portable device. The pictures look stylish enough to be fair, but Sony just isn’t going to make another PSP. Come on, we can do better than that. The leak features images of the PS5 home screen, hinting that you could possibly be running PS5 games on the handheld. It won’t happen either.

This latest leak is in fact the last, having broken just a few hours ago. Apparently Days Gone developer Sony Bend is making a Men in Black game, according to a bogus retail listing from EB Games. This ignores the fact that the studio has already confirmed their work on a new IP address. But, you know, we found it pretty funny and thought we included it. Here’s an image of what the now-deleted list looked like:

We’re just a day away from the real PlayStation storefront now, so it’s not long before we find out what Sony actually has in store. For now, we can laugh at all these false leaks. Which one is your favorite? Share them in the comments below.
