COLLETON COUNTY, WC (WCBD) – RaNiya Wright's 10-year-old family spoke Friday after investigators revealed that the cause of death was natural and unrelated to a fight in the classroom.
RaNiya's mother, Ashley Wright, said the information released Friday afternoon was just the beginning, as she continued to fight for justice on her daughter's death.
"I miss my daughter, I can not hold her anymore, I kiss her," she said.
It was the emotions of a mother in mourning. "I'm angry for a moment, I'm sad for a moment."
RaNiya Wright, 10, died after what officials said was a fight at school.
But on Friday, the investigators said Wright's death was not caused by the fight, but rather by a pre-existing brain disease.
However, her mother said that she had never known that her child was sick.
"My child was very healthy," she said. "All the medical problems that I have known – none of them until this situation happens."
Officials said RaNiya's death had nothing to do with bullying, but Ashley said her daughter complained of being bullied every day.
"My daughter came home every day about this same girl," she said.
