MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (WTVQ) – Mount Sterling celebrates aviation and its airport.
Mount Sterling / Montgomery County Airport held its annual Aviation Day on Saturday, which was canceled last year due to COVID-19.
According to Montgomery County District Attorney and Aviation Day announcer Kevin Cockrell, the event aims to bring the community to the airport.
“It is important, we think, to get the community to come to the airport. It is not every day that an individual comes to the airport, he may not have a reason to do so. So at least once a year we like to give them a reason to come to the airport, ”lawyer Cockrell said.
Planes flew in and out of the airport all day, with a candy dropped for the kids who came. The event also included vendors, food trucks, and airplane rides for adults and children.
Montgomery County Attorney Kevin Cockrell said the airport is an important part of the community, which many in Montgomery County don’t know much about.
“It’s a beautiful installation. It’s a tremendous asset to the community, and we want the people who own it to see it, appreciate it and know it’s there, ”said Attorney Cockrell.
A free breakfast was served to pilots heading to the airport. Children and adults could also chat with the pilots and observe some of the planes up close.
The event lasted until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
