VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) – 2,977 people lost their lives after the World Trade Center towers collapsed in New York on September 11, 2001, of those victims 412 were first responders, including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers.
Valley City Fire Chief Scott Magnuson said the annual Red Knights 9-11 tribute hike on Sunday, September 12 is our way of honoring those who have lost their lives.
Valley City Deputy Fire Chief Lance Coit said a ceremony in memory of those who lost their lives will take place ahead of the ride.
Registration for the Red Knights 9-11 Tribute Hike is Sunday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Valley City Fire Hall, a light lunch will be served prior to the hike. The ride begins at noon and ends with dinner at the Valley City Eagles Club.
The money raised during the tribute walk goes to families and businesses in the region who lost their property in a fire.
Magnuson said a few years ago that they had 343 registered runners, the same number of firefighters who died in New York City on September 11, 2001.
