The Red Sox have announced a series of roster changes ahead of tonight’s game against the White Sox. As expected, the shortstop Alex Bogaerts has been reinstated from the list of injured COVID-19. Hard throw reliever Darwinzon Hernandez was activated from the 10 day IL, while the club selected another bullpen arm Location Caleb. In the corresponding strokes, starter Chris Sale was placed on COVID-19 IL after testing positive for the virus and relief Austin davis was placed on the paternity list. In addition, the infielder Jonathan arauz has been placed on COVID IL. He is experiencing viral-like symptoms but continued to test negative, relays Chris Cotillo of MassLive (Twitter link).

Ort is set to make his major league debut. The right-hander was not drafted from Aquinas College in 2016. He signed with the Diamondbacks but was released shortly thereafter and then hooked up with the Yankees. Ort has spent the last few seasons in the New York system, but the Red Sox added him in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft last offseason.

Assigned to Worcester, Ort positioned himself well at the top of the miners to earn the call. The 29-year-old worked 43 1/3 of 3.12 ERA innings with the WooSox, taking out a massive 30.4% of batters faced. Ort has struggled with control throughout his professional career, but his 10.3% walk rate this season is only slightly above the league average for relievers.

Hernández is back after missing just over five weeks with a right oblique strain. The left-hander has an ERA of 3.44 in 34 relief images despite a high walk percentage of 16.9%. That’s thanks in large part to his quality 29.9% strikeout rate, a continuation of Hernández’s high strike and walk totals throughout his Big League career.
