Redskins LB Foster dragged out to the OTAs

ASHBURN, Va. – Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster was sidelined due to a left leg injury during the team's first period of organized activity. The injury occurred in the spring, during the third session of the OTA's first voluntary session with the Redskins.

The Redskins were still training and so there was no update on Foster's injury. Redskins coach Jay Gruden will address the media at the end of the trials.

When Foster was on the field, he was surrounded by several officials, including Presidents Bruce Allen and Gruden. Former Alabama teammate Landon Collins also joined them and Malcolm Bracken, director of player development, knelt down and patted Foster on the chest. At one point Foster turned to his right and hit the grass with his fists. You could hear him crying, putting his hands on his helmet while his head was shaking. When he was taken away, Allen returned to the establishment to join Foster.

The Redskins said Foster waived San Francisco waivers in November, three days after being arrested on charges of domestic violence. The charges were later dropped and the NFL decided last month not to suspend Foster.

The Redskins had planned to start with him as one of their two linebackers, likely alongside former Alabama teammate Shaun Dion Hamilton. The Redskins love Foster's speed and athleticism. The Redskins still have veteran Mason Foster on their roster; he can play both positions inside.

Foster was injured in the ankle as a rookie with the 49ers, which made him miss five games. He was suspended for the first two weeks of 2018 for a gun and drug offense. Another domestic violence charge involving the same woman since November has also been withdrawn.
