I was attending one of my Masters of Social Work classes on the University of Illinois campus at the old Nevada School of Social Work in Urbana.

We were on the first floor of the building, I had just entered the room and overheard a few of my classmates talking about what was going on through the news.

As a class, we turned on the television and began to watch, shocked and disbelieving, what our eyes were seeing and our ears were hearing. We were desperately trying to figure out what was going on.

By that time the first tower had been hit and we saw people running for their lives, people injured and of course some had died.

As a group we turned to support and started calling our loved ones from near and far to make sure they were okay and aware of the tragic events that had taken place.

I remember feeling numb, stomach ache, and a sense of urgency to want to help the victims.

As a family we ended up donating to the cause and I prayed for the families of those affected by this day.
