Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson was a mom just last week when asked about contract talks with the team. Maybe it was for a good reason.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Robinson and the Bears haven’t had “any substantive talks” for months. “At this point, it seems unlikely that a long-term deal will be reached,” Pelissero said.
Robinson is one of seven players marked by the franchise who have not signed a long-term deal and have until July 15 to close a multi-year contract. Otherwise, they will play 2021 on the one-year tender.
Robinson is expected to earn $ 17.98 million on the franchise tag and has said he’s ready to play there this season. But he wants to be paid like a top receiver.
Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is the highest paid in this role with an annual average of $ 27.25 million. He is one of eight receivers to have averaged over $ 18 million per season.
Robinson’s portrayal and the team have had discussions after the 2020 season, but talks have not progressed since, according to Pelissero.
Robinson caught assists from Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles in 2020. He thinks he’ll catch assists from Andy Dalton and Justin Fields this season.
Robinson, 27, has 200 receptions for 2,397 yards and 13 touchdowns in the past two seasons combined.
