Harris County is leading the number of confirmed sexually transmitted diseases, according to a report released throughout the state.

The annual report on sexually transmitted disease surveillance in Texas released by Texas State Department Health Services for 2017 shows that there are nearly 38,000 active STD cases in the county.

A report for 2018 is not yet available.

The report only tracks cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis.

While Harris County had the highest number of cases, Dallas County ranked second with approximately 28,500 cases. Bexar County, while being Texas' fourth largest county in terms of population, has ranked third among STD cases, with nearly 18,000.
