NEW YORK – The most popular players in the star vote will be in the money – enough to cover at least some of the clubhouse tips of the season.
The biggest voter in both leagues in the first round of the new fan voting system will receive a bonus of $ 15,000, according to details obtained by the Associated Press. This payment will go to whoever gets the most votes from the receiver and each intermediate position plus the top three from the field players.
For all non-field positions, second place finishes will receive $ 5,000 each and completers in third place, $ 2,500 each.
The Major League Baseball announced the addition of cash prizes on March 14, but did not reveal the amounts. This year's All-Star Game will take place on July 9 in Cleveland.
Fan voting resumed in 1970 for All-Star starters other than pitchers, and the two-phase division this year marks the biggest change since. The new system was approved by the MLB and the Players' Association on March 8, as well as by the field rules changes for this year and 2020.
