Suddenly there are reports that it is “nearly impossible” for Barcelona to sign a new contract with Lionel Messi due to both financial issues and his disappointment with the team.
Sportitalia first announced in Italy enormous tension between the parties following today’s lunch meeting, followed by Marca and then by Catalan radio station RAC1.
Meanwhile, other sources close to the club remain convinced that a deal simply needs to be announced.
Messi is currently a free agent as his contract expired on June 30, so technically he could sign for anyone.
The problems appear to be financial, forcing Barcelona to cut the payroll further even after Messi agreed to a 50% cut in the salary he received last season.
At the same time, Messi is also said to be angered by the direction the team has taken under coach Ronald Koeman and will not commit to a weak squad.
He just won the Copa America with Argentina and has other alternatives open to him including PSG and Manchester City.
