Republicans should not scrub Cher's face about immigration

RThe Republicans were quick to embrace Cher after his tweet about the city-shrines, but it was not as pro-Trump as many would like to think.

After President Trump announced on Twitter the goddess of pop said something about what the move would do in her hometown.

Cher criticized Sunday Trump, Cher tweeted Sunday that Los Angeles, which it's declared a "sanctuary city" in February, could not even take care of its own citizens.

Many conservatives quickly described the tweet as a victory for Trump and the GOP.

Cher might have been a victim of the president's plan to "own the libraries", but celebrating the hypocrisy of the elite will not help.

Rather than solving a problem with our immigration system, Trump's ploy to frustrate the Democrats makes the burden rest on them: "Oh yes, do you care about immigrants?" Why do not you take care of yourself? "

Saturday, Trump as much tweeted: "Just out: The United States has the absolute legal right to apprehend illegal immigrants transferred to sanctuary cities. We hereby request that they be cared for at the highest level, especially by the State of California, well known for its poor management and high taxes! "

In a way, the Trump gambit worked. Cher's opinions seem to have changed over the last two years.

But Cher can point to the hypocrisy of Los Angeles in its own governance without embarking on the president's immigration agenda.

It's easy to laugh at the anti-Trump celebrity in the anti-Trump city being "mastered" by the Trump immigration round. But there is a more substantial point to make of this if the Conservatives are willing to look for something beyond Twitter, the owner of the library. His argument – why can not we better take care of our citizens before trying to take care of more people? – A conservative must sincerely embrace and advance.

Before the city pledged to take on more people, she said Los Angeles should be sure it could handle its responsibilities. Councilor Gilbert Cedillo announced the decision of Los Angeles to officially become a sanctuary city m said it is a sanctuary "for all those who were attacked at the time of Trump". It's a tough challenge that will be hard to fill if the city can not even care for the homeless Skid Row.

Trump may finally agree with Cher, but she does not necessarily agree with him.

At least she presented what could be one of the few points of agreement between Republicans and Democrats on immigration. If Republicans scoff at her for having cracked for the president's trap instead of explaining why both sides are in agreement on the subject, they are losing a rare deal of ground.
