Residents of Santa Clara County 75 years or older can now get the COVID-19 vaccine

Santa Clara County officials announced on Wednesday that people aged 75 or older can now be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine is determined by state and federal criteria. County officials began by vaccinating people in Phase 1A, which mainly included health workers, residents and staff in skilled nursing facilities and paramedics.

But now they’re moving into phase 1B, which starts with people 75 or older, and then examples to the next level of people 65-74. This phase also includes education, child care, emergency services, and food and agriculture workers.

People who are now eligible for the vaccine should contact their health care providers. Here you will find details on how to contact the various health care providers across the county.

Those using the county’s public hospital system, including Valley Medical Center, can book an appointment through the county system.

County officials are asking residents to use the county website to register for vaccine appointments, instead of bypassing local public health exams and going directly to the state website of California for vaccine appointments.

All California Phase 1A healthcare workers have been eligible to receive the vaccine and will remain eligible to receive a vaccine, even if it becomes available to more people.

The Santa Clara County Public Health Department will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. today to discuss the latest changes in the vaccine rollout. Those interested can watch the talk on the department’s Facebook page here.
