Retailers suffer from Illinois lottery system upgrade

CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois Lottery's transition to a new central gaming system has caused problems for some retailers, including overpayments to winners.

The Illinois Lottery spokesman, Jason Schaumburg, said the ticket validation problem was discovered on February 20 and resolved the same day. There is no estimate of how much extra money has been awarded.

Bill Fleischli is Executive Vice President of the Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association and the Illinois Association of Convenience Stores. He says that stores that have paid incorrect earnings may be reimbursed if they submit a written report of the error to the Central Lottery office in Springfield.

Fleischli says some retailers have said they are not able to sell scratch tickets via vending machines. He says the problem will not be solved until the machines are replaced, but retailers will be able to sell the tickets through an employee.
