Apple has never affixed the "Pro" label on a iPhone like with MacBook and iPad. But all this has changed this year. For other Apple products, Pro often means better processors and bigger screens. The iPhone 11 Pro has the same processor as the iPhone 11but its display is better. Apple boasts the impressive bowls of photos and videos of the Pro phones, but many of these features are also available on the iPhone 11. The only functional advantage is the third camera in the iPhone Pro, which makes part of the intimidating group of three back of the iPhone 11 Pro phones. The iPhone 11 does not have a third telephoto lens, unlike the Pro.

The best iPhone this year is the iPhone 11 Pro, but it's mainly because it has a complete set of slightly better antennas, a more powerful battery, a better quality OLED screen, an extra telephoto lens and an 18-watt charger in the box. (This charger should also have been included with the iPhone 11.) But in most cases, with the exception of this camera, I'm not sure that I would need it. I felt the same way last year when I compared the iPhone XR to the iPhone XS.

After trying both Pro phones for a week, here is what I think.

iPhone 11: 3 phones, reviewed. Which one do you choose?

What price and what size?

Using the 5.8 or 6.5 inch 11 Pro is just a question of screen size. The larger model Max also has more pixels, for all those who need the phone as a good monitor for photos and videos. The larger Pro Max should also take about an hour of extra battery, but stay tuned for battery testing. Going bigger costs $ 100 more. I prefer the 5.8-inch one for its pocket size and easy one-handed use, but the phablets have their fans.

Apple has started again with a 64 GB entry level that costs $ 999 or $ 1,099 for the Pro Max (see the table below for prices in the UK and Australia). This is far too little storage for most business users if you imagine that it is a 4K video camera. Then you go to 256 GB for $ 1,149 or $ 1,249, which is the likely choice for anyone who runs a lot of videos. The level of 512 GB, $ 1,349 or $ 1,449 is strictly for someone who uses this feature to shoot 4K movies for a living.

The colors of this year? These are all industrial metal shades. I like it green gray greenbut i am a gray guy from the space normally. The matte glass back is an aesthetic improvement over the glossy back of the standard iPhone 11. But it slides too easily. Most of you will also put a case on a device that you spend so much money on.

The telephoto lens makes the difference

You can read everything about the ultra-thin camera and the other benefits of the iPhone 11 series in my entirety. iPhone 11 reviews. The same principles apply here. I use a lot the 2x optical zoom telephoto, as I had done during all these years on iPhone 7 Plus and 8 Plus and iPhone X and iPhone XS. It is useful to get some optical zoom because it gives better quality pictures than the digital zoom.

The telephoto camera has added night mode and offers the same video quality benefits as the wide angle camera. Both can be used interchangeably. The ultra-long camera has its own unique qualities, although it lacks the amazing low-light effects of the night mode, but the three cameras offer more options.

Pro phones have two types of portrait mode this year: the original zoomed type and a wide rear type such as the iPhone XR released last year.

Yes, the other phone cameras are amazing – we were impressed by the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Google Pixel 3 and Huawei P30. But the new Apple iPhones sports cameras that I would like to use every day. Further comparisons will be provided by CNET in the weeks and months to come.

More battery life, yes please

The iPhone XS and XS Max had a lower battery life than last year, while the iPhone XR stood out. This year, iPhone 11 Pro phones have taken a long time, and Apple claims to have added an additional battery life of 4 to 5 hours. Up to here, they feel better: I've found that iPhone 11 Pro phones last significantly longer with a charge, which could be one of the main reasons why they opted for this solution. And if you want or need maximum battery life, this is one of the main reasons to opt for the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

3D Touch is gone (long live the touch of Haptic)

Apple's awesome pressure-sensitive display technology, 3D Touch, debuted on the iPhone 6S. But now it has been completely removed from new iPhones.

In its place, what Apple had on the iPhone XR last year: "Haptic Touch". This feature uses subtle patches that come into play when you hold a finger on the screen, which gives the impression that you are pressed. And iOS 13, this year's iPhone operating system, installed on iPhone 11, has replaced the context menus of apps that were working when you tap the screen. These eye-catching and pop-up movements seem to take a little longer now. I miss 3D Touch, but I did not need it – and Apple never understood how to evolve iOS to get the most out of it.

The two reasons to opt for the iPhone 11 Pro Max

The most expensive iPhone this year is the iPhone Pro Max at $ 1,449, featuring 512 GB of storage. Even with 256GB of storage – the minimum you'll probably want for a high-end phone like this – you'll have to shell out $ 1249. There are two main reasons to choose the most extreme iPhone this year: either you want a larger OLED screen (2,688 x 1,242, or 2,436 x 1,125 for the Pro), or an hour of time. 39, additional autonomy.

I would not want to spend that much. But if you actually use your phone as a professional camera and want to see every pixel, you want the best viewfinder and the best editing screen you can get. Well, it would be this phone. It's also more fun for movies and games, but at these prices I would buy one iPad for that.

My favorite this year could be the smallest Pro

I am passionate about the 5.8-inch size of the iPhone XS because its compact size and the quality of its camera make it a simple tool. That makes me even more fond of the iPhone 11 Pro this year because the battery life is enough to last almost a day, more or less. As I stuck to my phone, I gave the 11 Pro a head whip before going home to be safe. It's super expensive, but the 11 Pro looks like iterated iteration of the iPhone X formula.
