Richard J. “Tail” Crugnale, 82, of Mingo Junction, OH, died on Saturday September 11, 2021 at Weirton Medical Center in Weirton, WV.

He was born on June 24, 1939 in Steubenville, OH, the son of the late Rocco and Julia (Baldwin) Crugnale.

Dick graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1957, then graduated from the College of Steubenville in 1961. He retired from Steubenville Big Red High School after 34 years of teaching. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where he served as cantor and sang in the choir, he was also a former member of the parish council. He was a member and former co-treasurer of the Italian American Cultural Club. He was the auditor of the city of Mingo Junction for 34 years. Richard also loved to play cards and was an avid Notre Dame and Yankees fan.

Mr. Crug has been the voice of Harding Stadium for many years. He also coached for many years, starting with the women’s volleyball, basketball and softball teams at St. Agnes Elementary School. He founded the first women’s softball team at Steubenville High School and was named the OVAC Coach of the Year for Softball and Volleyball.

Survivors are his 58-year-old wife, Barbara Jeanne (DiPillo) Crugnale, whom he married on August 10, 1963; two daughters, Kimberly Crugnale of Mingo Junction, OH, and Tracy (David) Ziarko of Steubenville, OH; two grandsons, Derek and Drake Ziarko; one brother, Matthew (Elisabeth) Crugnale of Carmel by the Sea, CA; and three nephews, David, Mark and Tim Crugnale.

Friends will be received at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 204 St. Clair Ave., Mingo Junction, Tuesday, 3 pm to 6 pm. James M. Dunfee, officiant. The entombment will follow at the Mt. Calvary cemetery in Steubenville. The family asks for masks at the church.

There will be a vigil on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
