Judas Priest has postponed his tour of the United States as guitarist Richie Faulkner grapples with undisclosed “major heart disease”.
“It is with deep regret that we have to postpone the rest of our American tour,” read a message from the group, shared with UCR. “Richie Faulkner has serious heart problems which have led him to the hospital where he is being treated. In the meantime, we all send love to our hawk to wish him a speedy recovery. “
A timetable for when the group can resume execution has not been given. “As soon as we hear from his doctors on when we can reschedule the dates, of course we’ll announce them,” the group’s message noted, adding that “tickets will be valid” for the make-up dates.
Judas Priest kicked off his 50 Heavy Metal Years tour on August 15 with a performance at the Bloodstock Open Air Festival in England. Since then, the group has taken the trek to the United States, performing 13 concerts before the postponement was announced. Their most recent performance was on September 26 at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, Ky.
Metal icons had originally planned to hit the road for their 50th anniversary tour in 2020, but those plans have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Faulkner joined the group in 2011, following the departure of group co-founder KK Downing. Faulkner contributed to the group’s two most recent studio albums: 2014 Redeemer of souls and 2018 Firepower. Most recently, Judas Priest announced a huge career-spanning box set celebrating the group’s 50th anniversary.
