Riverside City Opens First COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) – The city of Riverside joined other major cities by setting up a COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the parking lot of the Riverside Convention Center on Saturday.

The city planned to administer the Moderna vaccine to 500 people falling into the Phase 1 and Phase 1B level 1 categories, as well as those aged 65 and over.

“The tier system is set by the state and managed by the county, and at the moment we’re in the section of the tier system that encompasses teachers, law enforcement personnel, service workers. emergency, such as those activated in the EOC, and food and agriculture workers. In addition, anyone 65 years of age and over and anyone in the higher levels, such as a worker health worker who may not have already received their vaccine is still eligible to come in for the vaccine, ”said Capt. Tim Strack of the Riverside Fire Department.

The Saturday vaccination clinic is one of three organized, including Monday and Tuesday. Officials plan to administer 500 vaccines every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Appointments are required to receive the vaccine. No appointment was available on Saturday.

Before the clinic opened, people were already lined up.

“We hope to expand this site to a maximum of 1,500 per day. However, at the moment the problem is that we do not have the vaccine. Once we can get them we will expand this site as much as possible and when we have more there will be more nominations, ”said Captain Strack.

Those who have received the vaccine will need to return in 28 days to receive their second injection.
