Riverside County opened 25,000 appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, January 28, particularly for residents 85 and older.

New appointments can be booked online by visiting the county public health website. Vaccines begin on Friday January 29 and will be administered daily until Monday February 8. Seniors this age were already eligible for the vaccine, but these events include appointments just for them.

Vaccination clinics will be in Hemet, Perris, Beaumont, Lake Elsinore, Menifee and Indio.

At its meeting on Tuesday, January 26, the Riverside County Supervisory Board spoke about the need to prioritize the elderly when it comes to vaccines. Supervisor Jeff Hewitt cited data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on how those 85 and older are much more likely to die or be hospitalized from COVID-19.

“These factors dictate to me who should get this vaccine relative to any other criteria,” Hewitt said. “It should be communicated to the older people, to the most vulnerable members of society, because I want to save lives.”

Seniors who receive appointments will need to show proof of age (a driver’s license or California ID) and must have an appointment when they arrive at the clinic, the spokesperson for the clinic said. County, Brooke Federico. Those who do not have proof of age or an appointment will be refused.

They can also call 2-1-1 for an appointment at any of these locations.

If all appointments are filled, seniors will be placed on an interest list and will be notified when other appointments become available.

County clinics will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Friday, January 29 to Monday, February 8 at the following sites:

  • Citrus Hills High School, 18150 Wood Road, Perris
  • Diamond Stadium, 500 Diamond Drive, Lake Elsinore (drive-through clinic)
  • Tahquitz High School, 4425 Titan Trail, Hemet
  • Indio Fairgrounds (Auditorium Fullenwider), 46350 Arabia St.
