If you are under 65 and eligible for the vaccine, but having trouble getting an appointment, you may have better luck starting tomorrow.
County officials say they will no longer have age-specific dispensaries.
News Channel 3 spoke to people queuing up to get their COVID shots. Some told us that we needed a little outside help.
“I was trying to do it online and the site would freeze, my friends went online and called us and did it online for us and talked to us on the phone,” Glenn Morrison said.
Many felt lucky to get one.
Riverside County was prioritizing people aged sixty-five and over in specific covidus vaccination clinics.
“We wanted to make sure this was a fair competition for our seniors, we heard loud and clear that our seniors were struggling to get these nominations,” said Shane Reichardt, Senior Public Information Specialist for Riverside County. “We started with 85 years old. and once we started to see those dates decrease a bit, we went to 75+ and what we’ve been doing for about 65+ years. ”
This move was meant to help prioritize our most vulnerable community in county clinics. But as of Wednesday, they won’t be holding appointment blocks just for the elderly, making more doses available to anyone in phase 1 A and phase 1 B level 1, which includes healthcare workers, agricultural workers and emergency services.
“We are seeing an increase in supply, it is a huge relief, we want the supply to continue to increase so that we can go through all residents of Riverside County,” Reichardt said.
We asked about the elderly who are still waiting for their second doses.
“Even if we open our vaccination to these phase levels, those looking for a second dose are still going to get their second dose, we have to make sure we have the supply on hand,” Reichardt said.
The county confirmed that it had received the shipment of the Moderna vaccine which had been delayed by weather problems across the country.
