In an unexpected move Thursday, a Los Angeles court adjourned new York the murder trial of real estate mogul Robert Durst before he was supposed to give his own testimony.
There was no immediate explanation as to why the trial for the murder of Durst’s best friend, Susan Berman, ended soon after the court heard testimony from false memory expert Elizabeth Loft . The case will resume Monday at 2 p.m. ET.
WHO IS ROBERT DURST?
Durst, 78, is accused of killing Berman, who was shot in the back of the neck in his Los Angeles home in December 2000.

Durst has also been charged with killing his neighbor in Galveston, Texas, Morris Black while in hiding there after Berman’s murder. During his murder trial in 2003, he said Black was accidentally killed in a fight after entering Durst’s apartment with a gun. He admitted to dismembering and disposing of Black’s body. The jury acquitted him of the murder.
It took police nearly 15 years to arrest the New York real estate heir in the murder of Berman and five others to bring him to justice, which was later in the past year due to COVID-19.
There is also speculation that Durst may be involved in the 1982 disappearance of his wife, Kathleen “Kathie” Durst, who was 29 at the time, although he was never formally charged for her death. . Authorities declared Kathie Durst dead in 2017.

Durst pleaded not guilty to murder Berman. Prosecutors said he tried to silence Berman before she could tell police she helped him cover up his wife’s murder in 1982.
The homicide trial involving Susan Berman is in progress in california, and New York recently reopened its investigation into Kathie Durst’s disappearance.
