SKANDIA, MI – Robert Mathew “Bob” Keto, 66, from Skandia, died on Saturday, August 28, at his home, peacefully in his sleep, following a long illness.

Bob was born on July 8, 1955 in Ishpeming, to Gladys and Edward Keto. He had the pleasure of attending several high schools because of his father’s job; in Round Lake, IL, Rudyard High School, Sparta High, WI, and Cedarville, MI before graduating from Sault Area High School in 1973. In July 1976 he married his wife of 45 years, Beverly Crebo and started a family. After graduation Bob began his career at the Republic Mine, followed by the Tilden Mine and Empire Mine. While working at the Empire mine, he played a very important role in working with engineers to set up the Flux Pellet system. He then moved to the pit and spent years as a loader operator, which his co-workers have always appreciated his gentle loading of trucks. He retired in 2012 due to health issues.

As a youth, he spent many summers at Pokela Farm in Traunik with his brothers and cousins, giving his uncle Urho and his great-uncle Peter Hogan a helping hand in farming through their guidance skills.

Bob was a very happy, friendly and outgoing person who enjoyed the company of his family, friends and meeting new people. He was a good listener and was always ready to take people under his wing and give them a place to stay, which earned him the name. “Father” by many. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, boating with his family and four-wheelers, and snowmobiling with his brothers. He loved to sit around a campfire and was always up for a good policy debate (not sure who would win). He loved his grandchildren and loved the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys Keto; wife, Beverly; his daughter, Tina (Andy) Mihaloew; sons, Adam (Marie) Keto and Mathew Keto (Nicole); brother, Larry (Marilyn) Keto; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Alan) Wirtanen, Cindy Teeple; grandchildren, Leiland Keto, Peightyn Keto, Rylei and Caden Aho, Isabella Mihaloew and Camble Johnson; nieces and nephews, Jamie (Todd) Durand, Carrie Kalcich, Lori Keto, Joshua and Justin Piippo, Alicia (Matt) First; special family friend, Lee Madosh.

He was predeceased by his father, Edward; brother, Lance; brother-in-law, Keith Crebo, Jr., whom Bob always considered a little brother; his in-laws, Keith and Gloria Crebo, Sr.

Bob, your contagious smile will be missed by all of us and the joy you have always brought to others.

There will be private family service.
