Robert Williams highlights prove he’s one of the Celtics’ rare bright spots

The Boston Celtics are in the midst of what appears to be a period of never-ending loss.

But at least Robert Williams has been impressive lately, right? Small wins are important in tough times, after all.

And Williams was certainly one of them. The third-year center has assembled a swathe of back alley highlights, thunderous dunks and blocked shots – one of which has incredibly arrived at the 3-point line – in the last few games.

“Rob continues to improve night after night,” teammate Jayson Tatum told reporters on Sunday after the Celtics lost to the New Orleans Pelicans – an epic meltdown after leading by 24 points.

Williams played 21 minutes against the Pelicans, having played 19 or more in three of the last four games. He has played 20 or more games in just four games this season. But with more minutes came more production.

Williams scored eight of 4-for-6 points in the field against the Pelicans, 12 of 6 of 8 points in the field against the Hawks, eight of 4-of-5 points in the field against Atlanta the previous game, and eight of 4-in. -4 on the field against the Denver Nuggets.

Williams converts on nearly 73% of his field goal attempts.

And he also showed his abilities from the other side of the ground. Williams has collected four blocks in each of the last two games and seven interceptions (a season-high five against Denver) in the last four games.

“I think he understands the game better, and it shows with his productivity on the pitch,” Tatum said. “It is difficult to keep because it takes off quickly. Obviously, he can play very high above the rim.

“He has an incredible feel to the game,” Tatum added. “Rob is really, really good and he’s going to help us with as many opportunities as he gets.”

Hopefully the energy Williams provided can rub off a bit on the rest of the Celtics as they prepare to face the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday.
