Rocket Lab, one of the largest startups in the NewSpace category offering launch services and satellite services, has added satellite manufacturing to the range of services offered to customers.
The company, which had already developed launch capabilities and started sending payloads into space, can now provide fully-built satellites to its customers, according to a statement.
The "Photon" satellite platform has been developed so that customers do not have to build their own satellite equipment.
"Small satellite operators want to focus on providing data or services from space, but building satellite equipment is a major impediment to achieving this goal," said the founder and general manager from Rocket Lab, Peter Beck.
"The time, resources, and expertise needed to build hardware can keep small satellite operators away from their primary purpose, delaying their access to orbit and their revenues. As a turnkey solution for complete small satellite missions, Rocket Lab puts space at your fingertips. We allow our customers to focus on their payload and their mission – we do the rest. "
The satellites are designed for a series of low-Earth-orbit missions, including technology demonstrations, risk-reduction indicators, constellations and hosted payloads, the company said in a statement.
The satellites will remain in orbit for five years and will include an S-band communication system, high-performance attitude controls and a set of avionics tools for propulsion and space movement.
The new satellites will be manufactured at Rocket Labs headquarters in Huntington Beach, California, and can be launched on the company's electronic system. launch platform. The first launch of this type is expected later in the first quarter of the year and the company has announced that it will have its first paid missions in 2020.
