TOLEDO, Ohio – The world’s second tallest roller coaster will not reopen this year after a person in line was hit in the head by a metallic object that flew off the ride last weekend at the park. Cedar Point attractions.
The 420-foot-tall Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster will remain closed as Sandusky park officials, ride experts and state authorities investigate, Cedar Point said in a statement.
State and park officials have released very few details of what happened, saying a guest who was waiting to ride the roller coaster on Sunday was struck by a “small metal object” that s’ was detached from the roller coaster as he neared the end of his run.
The woman was treated at a Sandusky hospital before being transferred to another facility. His condition, age and name were not disclosed.

A report released by the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s ride safety division says the roller coaster was inspected in May. It did not show any structural problem.
The coaster, which opened in 2003, kicks runners straight off at 120 mph before climbing a hill and then back down. The journey lasts less than 20 seconds.
A year after its debut, four riders sustained minor injuries when metal shavings ripped off the coaster’s launch cable.
