OSRAM Continental Joint Venture provides intelligent lighting in the car to a new level

The joint venture OSRAM Continental GmbH, created by the two technology companies Continental and Osram, has begun its work. After the completion of all the negotiations and the issuance of approvals of acquisitions, the new company was launched as planned in the second half of 2018.

OSRAM Continental will hire from all over the world. firstly 1,500 people in 16 sites around the world.

In Romania, OSRAM Continental will operate in Iasi. The team here will work with teams from different international locations.

The head office is in Munich (Germany). The project is to move the headquarters to Garching (Germany). The joint venture aims to generate annual sales in the mid-range triple digit in millions of euros. Continental and Osram each hold a 50% interest in the joint venture, which is fully strengthened in the case of Osram.

OSRAM Continental forecasts annual growth rates of up to two digits for the next five years. This is based on a strong market development for LED modules and solutions, as well as associated laser and electronic lighting systems. The first products developed by the company will be ready for mass production by 2021.

The market for vehicle lighting in the automotive industry is currently in a period of transition to the semiconductor lighting technologies. As a result, software and electronics are becoming increasingly important and influential. Continental and Osram therefore combine their strengths in each of these areas and develop advanced phase modules and interior lighting solutions for automakers.

The new company will use scanning in its automotive lighting solutions to develop intelligent lighting functions for cars, from a single source. With its optimized approach to combine lighting and intelligent electronics, OSRAM Continental also strives to ensure the market penetration of LED technology in all segments of vehicles

As such, the company does not only use software solutions to create a configurable light distribution system – for example for low beam and low beam – but also for intelligent lighting functions. With the help of navigation data and sensors, vehicles equipped with these solutions in the future may, for example, design warning messages for other road users while driving [19659009].
