Mercedes-Benz launches the new 100% electric bus, eCitaro

Mercedes-Benz eCitaro, the new urban electric motorcycle, was presented at the press conference organized by the International Motor Vehicle Show (IAA). Mercedes-Benz eCitaro is the beginning of an innovative approach, whose long-term goal is the electrification of public transport. The zero-emission model, which stands out silently, has taken over the Mercedes-Benz Citaro – the world's best-selling bus (standard), combining elements of the Mercedes-Benz Future Bus concept car. This is particularly emphasized at the front, eCitaro with a solid appearance, well defined outlines, perfect proportions and elegant lines.

Mercedes-Benz eCitaro sets a new standard for city buses and impresses with excellent fuel efficiency based on a unique temperature management system in the battery compartment.

An Overview of Mercedes -Benz eCitaro

To meet the different needs of transport operators, a modular battery structure has been developed specifically for eCitaro. Thus, the standard equipment includes four Lithium-ion batteries located at the back of the bus. Additional modules of up to ten batteries can be added to the roof of the vehicle. The batteries have a capacity of up to 243 kWh and are cooled to the ideal temperature to maximize the service life. Shortly after mass production of the eCitaro bus will be available, other battery options will also be available, which will allow a "quick charge" during use.

With its ten modular batteries, eCitaro has its own mass in the standard specifications of about 13.5 tons. Thus, a maximum permissible mass of 19.5 tonnes corresponds to a load of up to 6 tonnes, or approximately 88 passengers.
The first orders of Mercedes-Benz eCitaro will be delivered by the end of the year when it will be started production of the new 100% electric bus at the Mannheim factory in Germany. The Hamburg and Berlin transport operators have already put into service 35 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses
