He took his camera and took off the launch of a rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, whose Soyuz capsule was to carry a load of 2.5 tons of supplies and equipment aboard the space station . The film was made from the "Cupola" module, built in Europe, which offers a panoramic view of the Earth from the space. This is the place where most of the astronaut photographs are taken.
Despite the fact that all the actions we can see in this video took place within 15 minutes, Gerst chose to create a timelapse that compresses everything in a minute, the action being slowed down as more important events unfold such as the separation of high-speed missiles, that of the main missile, and the moment when separate parts begin to fall back into the atmosphere and trigger at the entrance.
