Shock Proposal from the Minister of Finance. Eugen Teodorovici wants Romanians working abroad to have only one work permit, valid for a limited period, after which they can look for work in another country. The proposal has already triggered reactions among Romanians in the diaspora, who believe that it is an attack on freedom of movement and restriction of the right to work.
According to Teodorovici's arguments, this measure would help countries facing a crisis at work, said the minister. In practice, he gave the example of a Romanian who works in Germany and who, after the expiry of his work permit, should look for work in another country.
MEP Siegfrid Muresan criticized the proposal, saying on Facebook that "the finance ministers of the 27 member states have put their heads in their hair when they heard the country's finance minister take over" (…) The negotiations for Brexit have proved that the European Union will never give up the freedom of movement of its citizens, not even for Teodorovich. "Europe is a project of freedom, no PSD-Teodorovici banned." Wrote Muresan.
Some Romanians who have been working abroad for years also criticized the finance minister's intention and said that if the project were implemented, they would sue Teodorovici for discrimination, for violation of the right to work and for for violation of the right of free movement.
